Metallic Spheres er det tiande studioalbumet til ambienttechno-gruppa The Orb og kom ut i oktober 2010. Med seg har dei Pink Floyd-gitarist David Gilmour og Killing Joke-bassisten Youth.[16] Albumet låg tre veker på den britiske albumlista og nådde 12. plassen.[17]

Bakgrunn[endre | endre wikiteksten]

Tidleg i karrieren sin vart The Orb skulda (men aldri bevist) for å ha gjeve ut ei rekkje piratkopiplate med trance-miksar av Pink Floyd-album, og gruppa hadde mange andre Pink Floyd-referansar, mellom anna så vart Battersea Power Station nytta på fleire av plateomslaga deira.[5] I 2009 spelte David Gilmour inn ein versjon av Graham Nashsingelen «Chicago» med hjelp av produsenten Youth, som stundom hadde vore medlem av The Orb heilt attende til tidleg på 90-talet. Dette var ein veldedig singel til støtte for hackeren Gary McKinnon, men det vart eit springbrett for vidare samarbeidd eit år seinare, etter at leiaren i Orb, Dr. Alex Paterson, vart involvert. Metallic Spheres vart resultatet.[5]

Albumet strekkjer seg over 49 minuttar og er berre delt inn i to spor. Gilmour speler gitar, lap steel og stundom vokal (sampla frå «Chicago»).[5]
