What We Did on Our Holidays er det andre albumet til bandet Fairport Convention og var det første med Sandy Denny, som med «ei uforgløymeleg, overjordisk stemme gav Fairport eit stort løft» i følgje kritikaren i Allmusic.[1] Med dette albumet tok dei eit steg mot folkrockstilen dei vart kjende for, mellom anna med populære songar som «Fotheringay», og songen bandet tradisjonelt avsluttar konsertane sine med, «Meet on the Ledge».[2]

Etter at Judy Dyble forlet bandet, utførte bandet prøvespelingar for å finne ein erstattar og Sandy Denny var eit opplagt val. Simon Nicol har sagt «det var berre ein vinnar...ho stod ut som eit reint glas i ein kum full av skitten oppvask».[3]

Albumet har av forfattaren Richie Unterberger vorte skildra som «ein nær perfekt balanse mellom nyskapande omarbeidingar av tradisjonelle folkesongar ... gode coverversjonar av andre folkrockartistar, nokre ganske ukjende ... og originale folkrocksongar av forskjellige bandmedlemmer.»[4] Simon Nicol har sagt at dette albumet er favoritten hans.[5]

Plateomslaget syner ei teikning av bandet som spelar, skildra på omslaget som «frå ei tavle angripen av Fairport Convention»[6]. På nytutgjevinga på Island Masters frå 1990 finn ein òg eit portrett av Sandy Denny.

I USA vart albumet gjeven ut av A&M Records (SP-4185) med akkurat dei same songane, men anna plateomslag. Plata vart òg kalla Fairport Convention.[7]
