Arthur de Capell Brooke på Commons

Sir Arthur de Capell Brooke (22. oktober 17916. desember 1858) var ein engelsk baron og reisande forfattar og teiknar. Han var fødd i Northamptonshire , studerte ved universitetet i Oxford, . Han vart «Fellow of the Royal Society» (1823) og var med på etableringa av oppdagarklubben «Raleigh Club» i 1827. Seinare arbeidde han mykje for måtehaldssaka.

Reisa til Noreg[endre | endre wikiteksten]

I 1820 reiste han langs norskekysten, og sidan skreiv han ut ein detaljert, illustrert reiseskildring. Reiseskildringa fekk betydning for kjennskapen til Nord-Noreg i Storbritannia, spesielt til Hammerfest, som han overvintra i, og samane, som han var spesielt interessert i å studere. Brooke gjorde òg naturstudie.
