This rare yellow-flowered Pōhutukawa is considered a "landmark tree" by the city of San Francisco. It was planted by Victor Reiter, founder of the California Horticultural Society, circa 1930s. I was told that it's one of only three such trees in California. Metrosideros excelsa 'Aurea' originates from the Bay of Plenty region of Aotearoa New Zealand. This photo taken on Stanyan Street near the western end of 17th Street.
