Robert Alexander Hillingford (28. januar 1828–1904) var ein engelsk målar. Han spesialiserte seg i historiske måleri, ofte slagscenar.
Liv[endre | endre wikiteksten]
Hillingford vart fødd i London i 1828 og studerte på Kunstakademie Düsseldorf i fem år frå 1841. Han er tilknytt Düsseldorf-skulen. Derfrå drog han til München, Roma, Firenze og Napoli, der han blei gift og arbeidde i fleire år. Han målte folkelivsmotiv frå Italia. Eit måleri frå denne perioden med tittelen The Last Evening of the Carnival blei stilt ut i St. Petersburg i 1859. Han vende tilbake til London i 1864,[1] og stilte ut første gangen på Royal Academy i 1866. På dette tidspunktet byrja han å måla historiske maleri, særleg av Napoleonskrigane. Han stilte ut regelmessig på Royal Academy, British Institusjon og andre galleri. Sjølv om han var tiltrekt av kostymestykke som An incident in the early life of Louis XIV og During the wanderings of Charles Edward Stuart, måla han òg samtidige militære scenar, som måleria South Africa og The Dawn of Peace frå 1901.
