Roy Claxton Acuff (15. september 1903–23. november 1992) var ein USA-amerikansk countrysongar, felespelar, promotør og frimurar.[1] Han vart kjend som «King of Country Music» og har ofte fått æra for å ha teke sjangeren frå det tidlege string band- og «hoedown»-formatet til det songarbaserte formatet som var med å gjere country til ein internasjonal suksess. I 1952 sa Hank Williams til Ralph Gleason, «Han er den største songaren denne musikken har sett. Hyra du han så trengde du ikkje å tenke på publikum. Når det gjaldt størst tiltrekkingskraft i Sørstatane så var det Roy Acuff, så Gud.»[2]
Acuff byrja musikkarrieren sin i 1930-åra og vart regionalt kjend som songar og felespelar i gruppa si, The Smoky Mountain Boys. Han vart medlem av Grand Ole Opry i 1938, og sjølv om han byrja å bli mindre populær seint i 1940-åra, vart han verande ein nøkkelperson for The Opry i nesten fire tiår. I 1942 skipa Acuff og Fred Rose føretaket Acuff-Rose Music, som var det første store Nashville-baserte countryforlaget, og som signerte artistar som Hank Williams, Roy Orbison og Everly Brothers. I 1962 vart Acuff det første levande medlemmet som vart innlemma i Country Music Hall of Fame.[3]
