Stema comunei Gorneşti se compune dintr-un scut triunghiular, cu flancurile rotunjite, tăiat crenelat.

În şef, pe câmp albastru, se află un vârf de baldachin antic, în formă de coif/clopot scitic cu căprior şezând, privind spre stânga, flancat la dreapta de o rozetă de aur, iar la stânga de o monedă de argint.

În partea inferioară, pe câmp roşu, se află o ramură de ginkgo biloba cu 9 frunze, de aur, dispusă în pal, asuprind, în vârf, un râu de argint.

Scutul este timbrat de o coroană murală de argint cu un turn crenelat.

Semnificaţiile elementelor însumate

Vârful de baldachin scitic cu căprior, descoperit la Gorneşti, reprezintă valorile patrimoniale arheologice, vechimea aşezării, simbolizând deopotrivă fauna şi cinegetica locală.

Rozeta, element preluat din decoraţiile tavanului reşedinţei familiei nobiliare din Gorneşti, monument istoric, reprezintă şi ansamblul de interes turistic şi patrimonial.

Moneda este simbol al tezaurului şi al monedelor antice descoperite în patru dintre satele comunei.

Câmpul crenelat roşu simbolizează construcţiile valoroase ale comunei, ridicate de-a lungul timpului, şi activităţile axate pe materialele de construcţie.

Ramura cu frunze de ginkgo biloba reprezintă Parcul Dendrologic de la Gorneşti, rezervaţie naturală, iar numărul frunzelor este cel al satelor comunei.

Râul simbolizează hidrografia zonei, lacul din parcul dendrologic şi fostele şanţuri de apărare ale vechiului castel. Coroana murală cu un turn crenelat semnifică faptul că localitatea are rangul de comună.
