Bacillus subtilis er ein gram-positiv bakterie som lever i jord, der han spelar ei nykelrolle i økosystemet.
I ei utrøyning fann ein at ein biofilm av B. subtilis la seg over ein biofilm av Bacillus simplex og drap denne med surfaktin og andre toksin.
