Vibrio vulnificus er ein gram-negativ og bøygd stongforma bakterie. Han føretrekkjer temperaturar over 18 °C og lever fritt i sjøvatn med lågt til moderat saltinnhald.
I menneske kan V. vulnificus valda gastroenteritt, blodforgifting og lokal celle- og vevsdaude.
