Deanna Sirlin (fødd 7. mars 1958) er ein amerikansk samtidskunstnar som er best kjend for installasjonar og måleri i stor skala. Verk av Sirlin er blitt viste over heile verda, og omfattar massive installasjonar som dominerer heile bygningar i Venezia i Italia, Atlanta i Georgia, London i England, Antalya i Tyrkia, New Orleans Louisiana og Évora i Portugal.
Bakgrunn[endre | endre wikiteksten]
Sirlin var fødd i Brooklyn i New York. Ho studerte ved Brooklyn Museum Art School og tok ein BA i kunst ved State University of New York i Albany (SUNY) i 1978. Ved SUNY studerte Sirlin måleri under Mark Greenwald og kunsthistorie med Ann Sutherland Harris. Ho tok ein MFA i målarkunst ved Queens College ved City University of New York i 1980, der ho studerte under kunstnarane Gabriel Laderman, Charles Cajori, Benny Andrews og Clinton Hill, og kunstkritikaren Robert Pincus-Witten.

Sirlin er kanskje best kjend for installasjonen Retracings frå 1999, som omfatta nesten heile glasfronten til High Museum of Art i Atlanta. Verk av henne er inkludert i den permanente samlinga til kunstmuseet.

Sirlin er redaktør i The Art Section, eit nettbasert kunst- og kulturtidsskrift som har kome ut sidan 2007.[1] Ho skreiv for magasinet ART PAPER mellom 1993 og 2007. Ho var kunstkritikar kvar veke for Creative Loafing i 2010. Ho har skrive kunstmeldingar for Arts ATL sidan 2017.[2] Boka hennar She's Got What It Takes: American Women Artists in Dialogue blei gjeven ut av Charta Books i 2013.[3] Sirlin fekk ein Creative Capital Warhol Foundation Award for Art Writing i 2010 under rettleiing av Hayden Herrera.
