Butler Island er ei rund, isdekt øy som ligg 7 nautiske mil aust for Merz Peninsula, utanfor austkysten av Palmer Land. Ho vart oppdaga og fotografert frå lufta i desember 1940 av U.S. Antarctic Service. I 1947 vart ho fotografert frå lufta av Ronne antarktiske forskingsekspedisjon, medan Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) kartla ho frå bakken. Ho vart namngjeven av FIDS etter K.S.P. Butler, offiser i FIDS i 1947–48.[1]
