Joe South (fødd 28. februar 1940 som Joseph Alfred Souter, daud 5. september 2012) var ein USA-amerikansk singer-songwriter, gitarist og plateprodusent. Han er mest kjend som låtskrivar og vann Grammyprisen i 1970 for årets song med «Games People Play» og vart igjen nominert i 1972 for «Rose Garden».

South vart òg mykje nytta som studiomusikar og spelte gitar på Tommy Roe sin «Sheila», Bob Dylan-albumet Blonde on Blonde og den klassiske tremolointroen til Aretha Franklin sin «Chain of Fools».^[1] South spelte elektrisk gitar på det andre albumet til Simon & Garfunkel, Sounds of Silence.

South skreiv songar for Lynn Anderson, Freddy Weller, Jeannie C. Riley og Penny DeHaven, som alle fekk hittar på countrylista i USA med songane, i tillegg til songar for Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Loretta Lynn, Carol Burnett, Andy Williams, Kitty Wells, Dottie West, Jim Nabors, Arlen Roth, Liz Anderson, The Georgia Satellites, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Ike & Tina Turner, Hank Williams Jr., James Taylor, The Tams og k.d. lang.
