Sleeping with the Past er det tjueandre studioalbumet av den britiske songaren Elton John, utgjeve i 1989. Det er det bestseljande albumet hans i Danmark, og er tilskriven den mangeårige låtskrivaren hans, Bernie Taupin. Dette albumet inneheldt «Sacrifice», den første singelen hans som nådde førsteplassen på singellista i heimlandet Storbritannia. Det vart òg det første albumet hans som selde til platinaplate i Storbritannia sidan Too Low for Zero (1983).
Guy Babylon spelte for første gong på dette albumet og heldt fram med å spele tangentinstrument for John dei neste 20 åra. Fred Mandel forlet bandet kort tid etter. John la seg inn til rehabilitering i 1990.
I tillegg til «Sacrifice» og «Healing Hands», som begge vart gjevne ut som singlar i Storbritannia og USA, vart songane «Whispers» og «Blue Avenue» gjevne ut som singlar i delar av Europa. «Whispers» nådde 11. plass i Frankrike, medan «Blue Avenue» gjekk inn på singellista i Nederland.
