The Early Years 1965–1972 er ein plateboks på 33 plater av Pink Floyd, gjeven ut 11. november 2016. Samlinga inneheld sju volum med CD-ar, DVD-ar, BD-ar, vinylplater og saker som bilete, plakatar og turnéprogram. Ho inneheld tidlege singlar som ikkje kom på album og mange studio- og konsertopptak som aldri var gjevne ut før. Sjølv om Volume 1–6 hadde vore tilgjengeleg som individuelle plater sidan 24. mars 2017, har Volume 7 – 1967-1972: Continu/ation, berre vore å finne i plateboksen. Ei dobbel-CD-utgåve kalla The Early Years – Cre/ation vart òg gjeven ut.[1]

På grunn av ein feil vart CD-utgåva av Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii òg inkludert i plateboksen i staden for 2016-miksen av Obscured by Clouds, som vart plassert på innsida av samlinga i ei papplomme i siste augneblink. Den enkeltståande utgåva av 1972: Obfusc/ation inneheld begge CD-ane som standard.

Det er blitt oppdaga at ein kringlydversjon av Meddle er med i boksen.[10] Dette albumet vart visstnok fjerna frå boksen av ukjende årsaker. Meddle 5.1 er ikkje tilgjengeleg frå DVD/BD-menyen eller kjende «påskeegg»-metodar. Ein må tru at i staden for å fjerne innhaldet frå plata, så er berre lenkja fjerna frå menyen. Men det er mogeleg å finne plata om ein set ho inn i ein kompatibel datamaskin og leitar gjennom filene på plata.[10]

Platboksen fekk særs god kritikk med ein score på 97 av 100 på Metacritic basert på åtte meldingar.[11] Stephen Thomas Erlewine frå Allmusic kalla det «ei djupt portrett i mange lag av åra då Pink Floyd famla rundt for å finne stemma si.» Han hylla spora «Vegetable Man», «In the Beechwoods», samarbeidet med John Latham, musikken spelt inn for The Committee og Zabriskie Point, og «Moonhead». «Fordi å mykje av musikken er rå - det er konsertopptak, uferdig og improvisasjonsbasert - syner boksen at Pink Floyd var eit undergrunnsband heilt fram til Dark Side» konkluderer han. «Tiår seinare kjennest desse innspelingane grenselause: dette var musikk laga utan eit mål i tankane og reisa er framleis spanande.»[12] Daryl Easlea i Record Collector skildra plateboksen som «lydmessig tilsvarande til bakgrunnslesinga og dei omfattande fotnotane om den imponerande mengda med innspelt musikk.» Han sa om dei tidlegaste innspelingane deira frå 1965 «at dei syner kva for eit fabelaktig beatband dei var i starten. Eit breitt smil er ikkje det ein assosierer med Floyd, men desse fem tidlege spora frå 1965 er særs morosame.» Han hylla òg John Peel-konserten frå 1971 som «verkeleg praktfull, der den 14 minuttar lange Fat Old Sun syner kor dyktige dei var til å improvisere. Ein lang versjon av Embryo syner stordomen deira på sitt finaste.» Han trekkjer òg fram «radioopptaket frå 20. desember 1967 på BBC, berre ein månad før Barrett forsvann» som «ei openberring.»[13]
