The Bridge er det tiande studioalbumet til den amerikanske songar-låtskrivaren Billy Joel, gjeve ut 29. juli 1986. Det vart det siste Billy Joel-albumet med Phil Ramone som produsent. Albumet gav Joel fleire suksessrike singlar, som «A Matter of Trust» (10. plass), «Modern Woman» (som òg vart nytta i filmen Ruthless People, 10. plass) og «This Is the Time» (18. plass).

Joel byrja arbeidet med albumet i 1985. To av dei store inspirasjonskjeldene hans, Ray Charles og Steve Winwood, gjestar på albumet. Charles song ein duett med Joel på songen «Baby Grand», og Winwood spelte hammondorgel på songen «Getting Closer». Andre kjende musikarar som gjesta på albumet var jazzmusikarane Ron Carter og Michael Brecker, som begge spelte på den jazzaktige «Big Man on Mulberry Street».

Fleire av songane på albumet var òg i new wave-stil, som den første songen, «Running on Ice», som er inspirert av musikken til The Police, og den siste songen spelt inn for albumet, «Code of Silence», med Cyndi Lauper på korvokal og medtekstforfattar. Joel song sidan korvokal på Lauper-songen «Maybe He'll Know» i 1986 på albumet True Colors).

The Bridge var det siste albumet til Joel som hadde logoen til «Family Productions», som hadde vore på alle albuma til Joel fram til då etter ein avtale der Columbia Records kjøpte Joel ut av den første platekontrakten hans med Artie Ripp sitt Family Productions. I den avsluttande songen på albumet, «Getting Closer», kjem Joel med fleire åtak og tankar om kontrakten med Ripp, med referansar til my stolen youth, all the conmen and their acrobats who stomped me in the ground og I must live up to contracts.
